RN to MSN and BSN to MSN Programs

For registered nurses who want to do more, Missouri has numerous RN to MSN programs available. RNs with BSN degrees will be able to complete the BSN to MSN bridge programs in less time. For those with an ADN, the RN to MSN bridge option likely requires them to take additional coursework. These fast-moving programs are typically offered online or via a blended online and on-campus format. Because they are designed for working nurses, they are commonly offered at a part-time or one-class-at-a-time pace. Clinical experiences, which are required for most MSN degrees, are often completed in person under the supervision of a preceptor.

Typical Program Length:

  • Roughly 6 full-time semesters for an RN to MSN
  • About 4 full-time semesters for a BSN to MSN

Typical Admissions Requirements:

  • ADN or BSN from an accredited university (degree level may vary by program)
  • Minimum GPA of 3.25
  • Current license as an RN in Missouri
  • Current CPR certification
  • Statement of academic goals and objectives

Accelerated & Master's Entry Nursing Programs

For non-nursing professionals with a bachelor's degree in another area, they may be able to earn an MSN via a direct-entry Master's Entry Nursing Program (MENP). These accelerated programs, which may reduce the time and money spent to earn the advanced degree, are for dedicated students committed to completing this rigorous program. Saint Louis University in Missouri offers the state's only such direct-entry MSN program. The specialty degree path readies students to complete the nursing licensure exam for their RN and to become certified clinical nurse leaders.

Typical Program Length:

  • Five semesters or 21 months in length

Typical Admissions Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in a non-nursing field
  • GPA of 3.2 or higher and submission of official transcripts
  • Completion of prerequisite courses in science (preferably in the past 5 years)
  • Application, resume, and professional goal statement
