RN to MSN and BSN to MSN Programs

Many hospitals and medical centers are seeking nursing leaders with a clinical background. Montana State University currently offers a Master’s in Nursing Degree, including a BSN to MN program. To date, it is the only university in the state that offers such a program but this may change. The BSN to MN bridge option focuses heavily on healthcare leadership. It also offers the option to earn the Clinical Nurse Leadership certificate along with the degree. Occasional in-person clinicals and on-campus site visits are required. For RNs with an associate degree, they may need to complete an RN to BSN bridge program before pursuing a BSN to MN.

Typical Program Length:

  • About 4 full-time semesters for a BSN to MSN

Typical Admissions Requirements:

  • BSN from an accredited university
  • A holistic view of the applicant is considered
  • Minimum GPA of 3.00 (preferred)
  • Current RN license in Montana
  • Recommendation from the College of Nursing admissions committee

Distance education can be the flexibility needed to continue working while upgrading your qualifications. The program includes teleconferencing, video conferencing, and has scheduled times at the beginning of the semester to meet face-to-face. Upon completion of the MSN program candidates can look forward to careers in specialty fields like women's health, research, critical care, and more - as well, these specialties are highly compensated for the qualifications brought forward by having an MSN degree.
