RN to MSN and BSN to MSN Programs

Nurses are providers of compassionate caring and evidence-based practice. Now already-committed RNs can take on more patient care responsibilities when they attain a Master of Science in nursing. Bridge options (RN to MSN or BSN to MSN programs in Washington) enable courses to count double thereby reducing the need to retake similar courses. Most bridge programs have an explicit course sequence for students to follow so they can finish their degree seamlessly. Online, on-ground, and hybrid course delivery options allow flexibility working RNs need to complete their courses while they continue to complete their shifts. 

Typical Program Length:

  • Approximately 5 full-time semesters for an RN to MSN
  • At least 3 full-time semesters for a BSN to MSN

Typical Admissions Requirements:

  • ADN or BSN from an accredited university (degree level may vary by program)
  • Minimum GPA of 3.00
  • Completed application with personal essay
  • Current, unencumbered license as an RN
  • Some clinical experience
  • Resume and letters of recommendation
  • GRE scores (some universities)

Accelerated & Master's Entry Nursing Programs

For some, the calling to care for others comes later in life. These individuals with bachelor's degrees in non-nursing disciplines can become master's level nurses in less time at Pacific Lutheran University. The focused-immersion, direct-entry MSN option applies the students' completed undergraduate coursework as much as possible. The program readies students for the NCLEX exam and once they pass it, they move forward with an advanced generalist nursing concentration. The very competitive MSN direct-entry program in the state of Washington has a limited cohort. 

Typical Program Length:

  • At least 2-3 years of full-time study

Typical Admissions Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in a non-nursing field
  • GPA of 3.0 or higher and submission of official transcripts
  • Completion of prerequisite courses in science and statistics within the past 6 years
  • Application and resume
  • Three letters of recommendation
